Chapter 10 of 10
What to run next
A small method chooser for after your first study. Not a UX textbook.
You have run the loop once: Brief or blank study, a first method, AI Panel as hypothesis, a plan for real people. Use this page to pick the next method. You can combine methods in one study when the question needs more than one lens. Moderated sessions stay on their own path (chapter 7).
Chooser
- Survey: What people expect, believe, or report, sometimes beside a design
- 5‑Second Test: What people notice and remember after a short look
- First‑Click Test: Whether the page points people at the right first action
- Prototype Test: Where people hesitate across a flow, click by click (2 credits for a typical AI Panel run)
- Tree Testing: Where people look for something by label alone, without the visual design
- Card Sorting: How people group and label a set of items
- Preference Testing: Which of 2 to 5 options people prefer, and why
How to pick
Match the decision, not the trend. If Checkout stall is about finding Pay, First‑Click or Prototype beats a preference beauty contest. If information architecture is the fight, Tree Testing or Card Sorting before you paint pixels. If you only need a gut check on a hero, 5‑Second plus a short Survey is enough.
Keep studies small. Clone when a live study needs a variation. Run AI Panel first when you want direction. Run Your Panel or GenPop when being wrong would cost you.
